They exclude drafts, memoranda, correspondence, worksheets, notes, and judges' and court personnel's work products.

The Clerk of Courts is the custodian of all criminal case records, and the Prothonotary's Office is the custodian of all civil case records in Fayette County. Record seekers can easily find court records online or in person from these custodians. A court record typically reveals the following information:

  • Case details (case caption, number, and type, filing date, and reference numbers )
  • Case participants (plaintiff, defendant, and attorney's names and addresses and defendant’s date of birth, race, and sex)

Fayette County Superior Court Case Search

The Pennsylvania Superior Court handles all criminal and civil appeals from the Fayette County Courts of Common Pleas and appeals relating to children and family cases. The court issues Superior Court records online, by mail, and in-person to members of the public.

Fayette County District Court Records

Fayette County falls within the jurisdiction of Pennsylvania's 26th Judicial District. Record seekers can request District Court records in person at the Magisterial District location where the case was handled. These courts accept weekday requests from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. p.m. and close from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. daily. In-person requesters must provide a name or case number to facilitate the search. Get Fayette County Civil Court Records

The Fayette County Prothonotary oversees all civil case matters as the clerk for the Civil Division of the Court of Common Pleas. The Register of Wills Office has Fayette County vital records of birth and death on file from 1893 to 1905. Individuals can mail a letter or a completed Birth or Death Record Application Form to the office to obtain copies of the records. The letter must contain a list of the record-holder’s full name, birth or death year, and the requestor’s contact information. The search fee for this service is $5, payable by check.

Fayette County birth and death records after 1905 are available at the Pennsylvania Department of Health Division of Vital Records. The Division provides walk-in services at their Vital Record Public Offices. In-person requests should be made during business hours (Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.). Requests received by 2:30 p.m. can be processed the same day. Generally, the processing time of Fayette County birth certificates is approximately two (2) weeks, and death certificates are processed in 3 weeks.

Fayette County Probate Court Records

The Fayette County Register of Wills Office partners with a third-party vendor to provide online probate court records from 1993 to the present. Users must select “FAYETTE-RW/OC” in the county area and conduct a search by name, date range, instrument number, or book and page. The Office also welcomes in-person requests from Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to Noon, 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Requesters can obtain copies of probate court records from 1794 to the present, and a $5 search fee is required for this service.

Fayette County Property Records

The Fayette County Recorder of Deeds maintains property documents such as deeds, mortgages, easements, releases, land plans, and surveys. The Land Records portal allows individuals to access a property index and images from 1950 to the present. Select “Fayette” from the county dropdown to begin the search. The search criteria are by name, book, document, or UPI. The index for most property records is free, but the images are a pay-per-access service. The Online Archive Viewer also provides deed and mortgage indexes from 1950 to 1974, plan index from 1791 to 1988, and agreement index from 1854 to 1949. Users can only view property records but cannot download images. A book & page number is required to access information on the portal.

Property records can be retrieved in person at the Recorder of Deeds office during office hours. Individuals can print property records from 1975 to the present using the search stations available in the office. Go to the record staff to pick up the printed copy. Copies of property records before 1975 can also be retrieved from the record staff. Copies of property records cost 50 cents per page, and certified copies cost $3 plus the copy fee.
